Anne Finnegan Memorial Scholarship for Excellence in Writing, Literature, and the Arts
Anne Finnegan earned her degrees in art history and taught art in junior high school, high school, and at California State University, Fullerton. She was also widely read in literature, especially modern fiction and poetry. The last eighteen years of her life she was head of the monographic acquisitions department in the UCI Library. Many years ago, she sent a reminder to the entire library staff at UCI that National Poetry Week was approaching and that it might be a good idea for interested staff to share their favorite poems via the library list serve during that week. Anne posted a poem a day during that week, and the rest of the staff responded by posting their own favorite or newly discovered poems. That practice has now become a valued tradition in the UCI library. Anne would be happy to know that an OCC student with proven excellence in writing, literature, or the arts would be honored with a scholarship in her name.
Anne was married for over forty years to long-time OCC Professor of English, Mike Finnegan.
