Student Dance Awards

The first Dance Awards were given in 1962. Since that time over 150 dance awards have been presented to deserving, talented students. Dance award recipients are selected from the dancers participating in the annual Student Dance Concert. All concert participants vote for the students they feel have contributed most to the concert and have the desire and potential talent to continue in the field of dance. The award money is raised from the profits of the Student Dance Concert.

The Student Dance Concert gives qualified dance students an opportunity to perform and present to the community an outstanding dance production. The Dance Department has grown from the 200 students who were enrolled in dance classes in 1962 to over 2,000 students taking various styles and levels of dance today. Many Dance Award winners have pursued dance careers as professional performers or teachers.
