Steve Goetz Honors Scholar Award(formery Honors Program Scholarship)
The college-wide Honors Program promotes student initiative, intellectual curiosity, and concern for social issues by providing enriched learning experiences for highly motivated students. Honors classes, which are open to all OCC students, foster mastery of content and encourage discussion, critical thinking, analysis, and skill in written expression. The Honors Student Council provides opportunities for students enrolled in the Honors Program to plan, organize and engage in scholarly events, social activities, as well as in campus and community service.
These awards are given in recognition of Steven J. Goetz, Honors Program Counselor Emeritus, who served honors students for more than twenty years. A pioneer in the establishment of the OCC Honors Program, Steve’s passion for teaching was second only to his dedication to students’ academic and professional success. Each Steve Goetz Honors Scholar Award goes to a continuing or transferring Honors Program student who has earned distinction academically through Honors classes, at research conferences, and through service and leadership to the OCC Honors Program.
